Chapter 3: Large Scale Dentistry
The thing that tipped Dr. Bones off was the hot wet breath, and all in a rush of horror, he recalled why one does not wander the Tunnels openly. He slowly turned around, and what filled his vision was a mouth. He could not properly see the full size of it, he could catch glimpses of teeth, a massive tongue and that yawning pit of a throat.
In his terror and panic, Dr. Bones screamed the first few things that came to mind.
-DON’T EAT ME I’M JUST BONES, IS THAT A ROTTEN TOOTH IN YOUR MOUTH?!?-
The mouth paused. The tongue flicked out and tasted the air, the lips smacked a bit.
“OH, IT IS JUST TALKING BONES. TALKY BONES ARE FINE. I DO HAVE A ROTTEN TOOTH. IT IS VERY PAINFUL. I EAT NOW. FEEL BETTER THEN”
That the bigmouth had a rotten tooth was painfully clear to Dr. Bones as it closed in on him again. He was just thankfully that he could not smell.
-WAIIIIIIT, RATHER THAN EATING ME, HOW ABOUT I REMOVE YOUR ROTTEN TOOTH FOR YOU?- he screamed backing away.
Once more the bigmouth paused. It was having trouble processing this development. Thinking isn’t something bigmouths do much of.
“OK” it simply said.
Bones rattling, Doctor took a moment to steady himself. Had he been a more cunning man, he’d have seen an easy way to escape at this moment. As it was however, he intended to remove the rotten tooth. Indeed, it was of great interest him, a medical procedure that he hadn’t done before. That he hadn’t heard of before.
-Could you pull back your lips please? I need to numb the area of the gums around the tooth-
“SURE”
Dr. Bones internally screamed as he gazed upon the horrific sight of the bigmouth with its lips peeled back. Still, his first name wasn’t Doctor for nothing, and he pulled a needle attached to a bag filled with some manner of white substance out of his spacial darkness.
-I’m going to stab you with this thing, it won’t hurt and hopefully it’ll make me taking your tooth out not hurt-
“REALLY THAT LOOKS KIND OF SINISTER THOUGH”
-Don’t be a baby. Look at how large you are, how could this hurt you?-
Technically the liquid in the bag was a fatal poison harvested from a serpent with a world inside it, but in terms of anaesthetics few were better for megafauna. Dr. Bones was more worried that the stuff wouldn’t work. He quickly stabbed it into the gum near the rotten tooth and the bag shrivelled as the liquid was injected.
-Feel anything?-
“DIDN’T HURT. TINGLES A BIT”
-Tingles? It doesn’t feel numb?-
“NOPE, STILL HURTS, MAYBE I SHOULD JUST EAT YOU NOW”
-Hold on, I’ve got at least two more things to try, and I can always remove the tooth without numbing the area-
“WHAT DAT LIKE?”
-Extremely painful, now hold still-
Dr. Bones pulled from the darkness in his ribcage a ghastly mechanical contraption. It was half the length of Dr. Bones himself, and had at least five pistons to drive the needle and pump the deadly toxins within the machine. Deadly toxins that glowed green with sinister black specks that on closer inspection were impish faces.
“UH”
-Don’t worry, I’ve done this at least two times before-
Without waiting any longer, Dr. Bones jabbed the machine in and it pumped the toxin in.
The bigmouth twitched slightly.
“OOOH SPICY”
Dr. Bones twitched for a totally different reason.
-You can still feel everything can’t you?- he complained as he put the machine away.
“YUP”
With a dramatic sweep, Dr. Bones pulled his coat back and reached an arm up to the ceiling.
-LOCALE ANAESTHESIA-
He cried as the air thrummed with power, then to the sound of ominous chanting, a shining tear formed and it was summoned.
A great red bat.
No not that kind of bat.
To anyone from a dimension which had the sport, the massive thing would be recognised as a baseball bat. Dr. Bones pointed a skeletal finger at the bigmouth and the bat descended and struck against the gum, sending ripples alone that flesh. The bat then shrunk and fell into Dr. Bones’ hand.
“I STILL FEEL” the bigmouth helpfully supplied.
Dr. Bones scratched his skull a bit.
-Ok then, clench your teeth-
“WHAT?”
*CRACK*
One gentle two-handed strike with the bat and the tooth was sent flying out of its socket. The bigmouth, understandably enough writhed in considerable pain. This time, Dr. Bones had the presence of mind to flee, and flee he did, right back into the coffin. Once inside he had it tunnel away from the Tunnel straight away, semi-randomly picking a co-ordinate from a list of saved ones.
The bigmouth had to settle for eating its own rotten tooth.
