Super Dimensional Coffin Part 3

This is part 3 of a serial part 1 is HERE

This is the second update of this day, go back one update for the first one.

Chapter 2: On the inconveniences of being a skeleton

Doctor Bones sat on the command throne of the dimensional coffin. One arm of the throne had extended out before Dr. Bones forming a keyboard of an arrangement loved throughout the dimensions. It was an arrangement good for typing countless languages, runes and it was quite good for playing music too. None other than the grand arrangement made by the Genius Dimensional Pirate, Beard of Many Colours, or as more commonly known, Colourbeard. Near the keyboard was a tracking orb, a thoroughly detested but common control system.

On the other arm of the throne was a wooden goblet with some manner of steaming brew in it.

The mirror before him was displaying the void outside the coffin, sweeping about, but nothing could be seen. Nothing but nothing. He was wearing a white leatherscale doctor’s coat. A darkness appeared in his ribcage when he put it on, but he remembered that it was a spacial darkness connected to all the coats that he owned. There was of course a number of emergency medical kits and tools inside.

He had a lot of questions In his skull, Doctor Bones did. He even arranged them in text on the coffin’s systems. As could be seen on the mirror on top of the motionless void.

Why did I build a medical tomb capable of traversing the void between dimensions?

Did I even build it?

What is the story with the horn in my skull?

Why am I one of the undead?

What awakened me?

Is my name really Doctor Bones? Isn’t it kind of unusual even in all the dimensions that exist to have Doctor for a first name and actually be a doctor?

-Well, at least I’ve got coffee- he said, lifting his goblet and pouring it into his mouth.

He had however forgotten something very important.

Seeing as he had none of the physical parts required for the imbibing of liquids and was not trained in the art of consuming with one’s spirit, the coffee that he poured went everywhere. In particular it went all over his keyboard.

Dr. Bones cursed as he tried to clear the coffee up with his coat, but sadly it was not an absorbent garment. Finally regaining his wits, he put his hand into the darkness in his ribcage to take out some tissues, but by then it was too late.

A mechanical voice sounded out.

<Coordinates received, plotting course, applying dimensional shielding. Commencing sub-tunnelling. Please avoid doing dimensional experiments while in transfer>

The whole tomb shuddered and the light which came from no observable fixtures dimmed and turned an aggressive red.

<Forming ethereal platform, proceeding from platform in five>

Dr.Bones panicked a bit and tried to find out where the coffin was going to lay dimensional tracks to.

<Four>

He almost spilt the coffee a second time, however with a bit of deft handling he managed to get it all over the floor instead of the keyboard.

<Three>

A spider-beetle golem scuttled out to clean up the spilt coffee, Dr. Bones almost tripped over the unfortunate golem.

<Two>

Dr. Bones scrambled back to the throne and tried once more to figure out where the coffin was going.

<One>

Even with the shielding, Dr. Bones felt as if he was being spread out along countless pieces of toast. In the void a tunnel had opened up and the coffin fell on its back onto train tracks as it sped into the tunnel, which lingered for a moment before popping out of existence.

Moments later, Dr. Bones returned from the world of toast spreads and released the golem that he had in his struggles grabbed.

<Arrival at destination platform confirmed. Dispersing arrival platform. All systems normal, no aberrations have attached themselves to the SDC’s exterior. Display outside on main mirror?>

-Display- Dr. Bones said breathlessly, as he said all things really.

Rather than nothing, what was revealed was pitch blackness. It was super dark. Uber dark even.

He typed a few things, trying to get some information about where he was.

<Scans complete, SDC is currently within a Tunnel between dimensions, co-ordinates are as follow…>

He stopped the machine spirit before it could unleash a hellish string of runes.

-Well, I guess I should check outside then- he mused aloud, not really thinking properly.

It is best not to be too hard on the man, he was after all, undead and awoken from… well who knows. Still, having enough mindfog in his skull to prevent him from realising what a terrible idea he was following, he checked that he was thoroughly dried of all coffee and strode out of the coffin.

It was very dark.

He pulled a steel lamp out from the darkness in his ribcage. Even with turning on the magic lamp, it only made a small circle of pale blue light. He wandered forward a bit.

It was very dark; he was likely to be eaten by a bigmouth.
