Chapter 15: Heart, Mind, Memory, Origin

Let it be understood that the inside of another being’s body, be it a spirit body or a more physical body, tends to be highly hostile to anything not native to it. So, as a matter of course, when Dr. Bones appeared inside the plantoid’s body, he was attacked.

It was by thorny fleshy tendrils of course. As without so within.

However, what with having that mystical horn lodged into his skull, the tendrils could only impotently writhe around him, so Doctor Bones could easily take stock of his surroundings and the condition of the plantoid’s insides.

Green. Everything was green. It made things a bit hard to distinguish, but Dr. Bones could see the maze-like formations that made up the creature’s form. Truthfully the beings of most dimensions are filled with holes. The size of these hollow spaces vary, but the world they live in passes through them all.

What drew Dr. Bones attention was the fluids within the insides. They weren’t quite right, and within them were curse-like tears just like one he had found in the ice-spirit outside the lab.

-If only I could use fire on all my problems. Well, if there are tears, then something much be shedding them-

Dr. Bones waded through the tainted flowing sap. As he climbed through towards what he felt was the origin of the tears, he thought to himself.

-Really, the motions of life of this plant’s insides are more deadly to me than the natural protectors-

He slipped through a passage just as it mashed closed behind him. He was doing far more of that than he wanted.

-Actual heart, conceptual heart or… heartflame was it? One of these three is afflicted.-

One of the problems with being small enough to go through the innards of a being is how long it takes to get anywhere, but without being smashed to bits, Dr. Bones entered her heart.

A great chamber, encrusted with crystal like that that her lower half was fused with. Indeed the tears were being pumped around along with everything else, but they did not seem to originate from the heart.

-Well, at least I can access the conceptual from her…-

Dr. Bones paused. He bent down and scooped up a handful of the viscous sap.

-The horn is a medical tool, perhaps…-

Light shot from the horn, and the liquid in his palm seethed, until the only thing that remained was a single curse tear.

It was this that Dr. Bones gazed deeply into.

-Hunger, but not just that, of course, memory. I need to know a little more about how this being I’m in came to be, so you’ll be my catalyst to peer into that-

He clenched his hand, and as the tear shattered, the heart clenched with him. He connected with the conceptual heart.

Through the heart the mind, through the mind the memory. Moving like a curse, like a disease.

What he found was not the memory of one single being.
