Caravamel Part 24

Chapter 23: Hammer the pot, release the kunglers!

“Kejo! Your pot!” Yerdl cried.

Kejo didn’t question his father, but promptly pulled his pot off, exposing his orange, fruit-like body. An inciting mouthwatering aroma wafted out. This was one of the reason that frulids wear pots.

There was a cracking noise and the roars of several beasts. The forgehome also had kennels, within which the tailless slugs kept whatever they felt like keeping. In this case it was a sizeable pack of hunting kunglers!

The gray furred porcine beasts had been huddling in their kennels, covering their short snouts and metal plates closed over their eyes, with their spade-like pincers covering their faces for good measure. Their flat clawed hindlegs had been shivering so much it would not have been surprising if they had dropped off.

Kunglers were normally quite proud underground predators, first tamed by tailless slugs, then reduced to shivering in cold and fear by the fight between Slush-bunny and Oboll T. They may be a beast fairly high on the list of things you don’t want to encounter, but they were not something that could deal with the kind of power that was tearing up the forgehome.

Still, such was the power of a frulid’s flavour, that it would prompt the kunglers to come out of hiding and break out of their kennels. As that chaos ensued, the hammer flying at the caravamel grew closer and not only that, Slush-bunny slung an ice spear right at them.

A resounding gong rang out as Yerdl whacked the hammer off to the side, the impact causing him to vibrate and fall unconscious. The hammer itself twirled right into the path of the ice spear, shattering it and sending shards of ice raining down on the kunglers.

The Chairseer’s Oboll T had recovered and cartwheeled over to Slush-bunny, kunglers thrown upwards in it wake. Yet, such was the smell of a frulid that the kunglers didn’t give up and kept chasing Turmeric who was dodging and weaving through the frozen forgehome, even as it collapsed around them.

Ismi glanced back at the large pack of hunting kunglers that snorted and snuffled in their efforts to keep up. Some of them had learned that it was faster to slide on their bellies on the ice-slick ground using their pincers to propel their bodies, occasionally these adventurous beasts would careen wildly.

“Just how am I supposed to get away with all these things chasing us?!?” she wailed.

Then she caught sight of Slush-bunny and the Oboll T duking it out. A mad plan took form in her head. Turmeric let out a rumble of dismay, sensing what was coming, even Kejo sensed it.

“No mom, no!” he shouted.

Ismi pulled the reins, directing Turmeric to run right towards the battling machine and minion!
