Caravamel Part 13

Chapter 12: The Machine Frog and the Juice

The clanking grew louder as a teal machine shaped like a frog that was in turn slightly shaped like a knight crashed down the tunnel and smashed a bottle into the juice. The juice sloshed away from the bottle, the machine failing to trap it. The frulid family took cover as the mass of metal and the stream of juice tumbled past them.

As the machine stood up it could more clearly be seen. The joints were round and bulbous. Actually, in general bulbous would be how to describe it. One of the arms ended in a kind of unholy union of pickaxe and spade, the other naturally had a round hand with fat round finger-tips.

Considering the machine was teal in colour, it was quite likely the metal it was made from was rinc, which like a number of elconic metals simply has slight cold resistant properties. Though in the case of rinc, it is more common closer to the surface than it is deeper in the ground.

This would be because rinc originally is ice. Nobody is quite sure how that works, but it has given rise to the notion that you can stay hydrated by licking rinc.

Nestled within the head of this machine was some creature or another, its blue eyes could be seen quite clearly taking the place of where eyes would logically be on the head of the machine. The machine was holding a large rectangular glass bottle.

The Juice reformed, wary of this large aggressor.

The Frulids for their part were in shocked silence.

The machine took a half-stumble forwards, the juice backed away. They both went still.

Then, with little regard to the height of the tunnel, the machine leapt at the juice!
